What I am reading now: Open City, by Teju Cole. Here's a review from the New Yorker. The author's personal website is here. I discovered the book thanks to The Economist. (The "Books and Arts" and "Science and Technology" sections of The Economist are its secret weapons, by the way.) I am really enjoying the book. The word that keeps coming up for me is "compassion". I can already tell that I'll be a bit sad when I'm no longer spending time with the narrator.
The end of a good book is a bit of a loss. I felt this way about The Handmaid's Tale, too.
