federal appeals court has ruled that the U.S. government had the authority to order the detention of Jose Padilla, an American citizen, based on him qualifying as an enemy combatant, despite the fact that he has not been accused of any crime.
What this means depends crucially on how the courts define an enemy combatant. What is required for one to be viewed as such? Writing a blog critical of the current administration? I hope not.
